Case of 6
Viognier vines as a variety are traditionally grown on decomposed granite soils and well suited to the warm sunshine of the Paarl region. Part of our “Premium Exclusive” Collection due to the very limited quantities, these Viognier grapes were picked at optimum ripeness, and the resultant wine is barrel fermented and matured for eight months. This wine has prominent floral notes of orange blossom on the nose that leads through to peach and apricot flavours on the palate.
The wine can also be enjoyed by itself now or cellared for mature drinking.
The 2017 Viognier grapes were picked at optimum ripeness, and the result in wine is barrel fermented and matured for 11 months in 60% second fill and older 300 litre Romanian oak and 40% fourth fill French oak. Malolactic fermentation was not encouraged after the alcoholic fermentation but the lees was stirred (batonnage) by rolling the barrels for up to six months during maturation. The wine was bottled in January 2018 and released in November 2018. Alcohol: 13.3% vol. (Diam cork closure).
Food pairing suggestions include chilled summer soups, grilled salmon and pan-fried seafood.
